“The incidence of concussion is reaching epidemic proportions. ”
Concussions/mtbi
Concussions, also known as Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries (MTBI), can cause a variety of symptoms that can be distressing to experience.
Although the majority of concussions resolve completely with days to weeks, some individuals experience persisting symptoms and are prevented from engaging in their normal activities.
More recently, a lot of information has been available through the media about concussions, and sometimes it can be challenging to know what is fact and what is not.
Neuropsychological assessments following concussion (e.g. sport-related, in the workplace, or anywhere else) can be useful to address concerns regarding post-concussive symptoms. These can include attentional problems, concentration and memory difficulties/forgetfulness, and changes in the speed of processing information, as well as others.
Neuropsychological assessments can help with monitoring of cognitive symptoms over time, as well as making recommendations regarding safe returns to play, school or work, as well as rehabilitation needs.
